KAISCAN

Terms of Service

Last updated: 7 August 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and us when you use KaiScan. We have written them in plain English on purpose. If anything here is unclear, email us and we will explain it.

Who we are

KaiScan is operated by Rigel Tech Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17098399), registered office 39 Hargreaves Road, Northwich CW9 7ZA, United Kingdom. You can contact us at support@kaiscan.app.

What KaiScan is, and what it is not

KaiScan scans packaged food barcodes and shows you a general score for the product, plus an optional personalised view based on health conditions you tell it about. It draws on public dietary guidance from bodies such as the WHO, FDA, NHS and ICMR, and on product data contributed to Open Food Facts.

KaiScan is an educational tool. It is not medical advice, it does not diagnose or treat anything, and it is not a substitute for a qualified clinician. Never use it to make a decision that a doctor, dietitian or pharmacist should be making. If you have a medical condition, talk to your clinician before changing what you eat.

Allergies and food safety

Always read the physical packaging before you eat something, especially if you have an allergy. KaiScan is not a substitute for the label on the product in your hand.

We take allergen handling seriously. We distinguish a declared allergen from a precautionary "may contain traces" warning, we match ingredients precisely so that unrelated foods are not wrongly flagged, and if a product is unsuitable for any one of your conditions we keep your personal score low rather than averaging the risk away.

Even so, product data can be incomplete, out of date, or wrong. Recipes change. Manufacturing sites change. A batch can differ from the data we hold. We source product information from Open Food Facts contributors and from manufacturers, and we cannot independently verify every entry. The packaging in front of you is always the authority, not us.

Your account

You need an account to use the personalised features. You must be at least 16 years old to use KaiScan. Keep your sign-in secure and let us know promptly if you think someone else has access to it.

You can delete your account at any time in Profile, then Delete my account. That removes what we hold about you. Health conditions live only on your device and can be cleared there.

Free trial and subscriptions

Core features are free: the general score, the nutrition breakdown, additive explanations, allergen flags, condition-tuned alternatives and up to 20 scans of history. Premium adds the personalised fit, the coach, unlimited scan history, compare and trends.

Payment, renewals and cancellation are handled by Apple or Google, not by us. We never see your card details. To cancel, or to request a refund, use the subscription settings in your App Store or Google Play account. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and you keep premium until the end of the period you have already paid for.

Your right to cancel

As a consumer you normally have 14 days to change your mind about digital content bought online. Because premium unlocks immediately, by subscribing you ask us to start supplying it straight away and you accept that you lose that 14-day cancellation right once supply has begun. This does not affect your statutory rights if something we supply is faulty or not as described, and it does not affect the free trial, which you can cancel at any point before it converts.

Using KaiScan properly

Please do not:

Product information you contribute

If you add or correct product details, you confirm the information is accurate to the best of your knowledge and that you are free to share it. You give us permission to use, publish and share that contribution as part of the product database, including contributing it back to open data sources. You keep any rights you already had in it.

Our responsibility to you

We want to be straightforward here rather than hide behind wording.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that the law does not allow us to limit. If you are a consumer, you also keep all of your statutory rights, including that digital content we supply must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. Nothing here takes those away.

Beyond that, and to the extent the law permits:

Ending your access

You can stop using KaiScan and delete your account whenever you like.

We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly breach these terms, if we reasonably suspect fraud or abuse, or if we are required to by law. Where it is reasonable to do so we will tell you first and give you a chance to put things right. If we close your account and you have paid for a subscription period you have not used, we will refund the unused part unless the closure was because of fraud or serious misuse.

We may also stop offering KaiScan, or any part of it. If we withdraw a paid feature we will give you reasonable notice and refund any period you have paid for but cannot use.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example to reflect new features or changes in the law. If a change materially affects you we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you do not accept a change you can stop using KaiScan and cancel your subscription.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes can be brought in the courts of England and Wales.

If you are a consumer living elsewhere, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the country you live in, and you may also be able to bring a claim in your local courts.

If something goes wrong

Please contact us first at support@kaiscan.app. We would much rather fix a problem directly, and most things are resolved quickly that way. Nothing in these terms requires you to give up your right to go to court.

Privacy

How we handle your data is set out in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of your agreement with us.
